Pure Steam Quality plays a vital role in steam sterilization of load in Pharmaceutical Industry. International regulatory standards such as EN 285, EN 17665 & HTM2010 recomends steam quality testing and has defined parameters for compliance of clean steam. Smart Still

Pharmalab has been a leading supplier of Water for Injection Plant and Pure Steam Generators for more than three decades. With an aim of providing better solution to its customers, Pharmalab has designed a Smart Still, combination of WFI generation plant and Pure Steam generator,to produce WFI and Pure Steam from a single unit. It is designed to produce WFI & Pure Steam either simultaneously or independently. Smart Still is designed to meet the stringent standards set by major pharmacopoeias like USP, IP, BP, and JP. The still is manufactured as per FDA – current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and in accordance to ASME requirement. The WFI and Pure Steam is produced on the basic principle of Distillation by Thin Film Evaporation.

This process involves a shell and tube heat exchangers (column) where heat transfer is done by falling film evaporation. High temperature is reached for every drop of water and steam produced, thus ensuring sterility levels demanded for WFI & Pure Steam. Separation of the pyrogenic load is achieved through centrifugal force generated during the upward movement of the steam. Pure Steam generated from this equipment surpasses the steam quality test like non-condensable gases, degree of superheat and saturation test as per HTM 2010 & EN285 requirement. Our plant is designed to be crevice-free as crevices promote stagnation and stimulate bacterial growth. All columns are designed to ASME specifications and are approved by CE for PED regulations as per European Union requirement.

The P-O-U system is a critical bridge between the PW/WFI generation system and the user. The P-O-U must ensure system integrity to maintain product quality and simultaneously fulfil the user requirement of quick delivery and convenience.
Pharmalab’s advanced P-O-U system is designed and built to instantaneously dispense a quality product with a desired output as per the user’s convenience. This advanced system ensures sanitisation (when not in use) by continuously circulating the hot WFI/PW through small parallel loops consisting of the heat exchanger.

Water For Injection Generation Plant

WFI Generation
Over the last 30 years, Pharmalab has been the leading supplier of plants producing water for injection, which meets international standards, including USP, IP, BP and JP. The plants are manufactured as per FDA’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ASME requirements and follows the basic principle of Distillation by Thin Film Evaporation.
This process involves a shell and tube heat exchangers (columns) where heat transfer is done by falling film evaporation. Very high temperatures are reached for every drop of water produced, thus ensuring sterility levels demanded for WFI. Separation of the Pyrogenic load is achieved through centrifugal forces generated during the upward movement of the steam.
During the process, the feed and distilled water within the plant is in constant motion and hence there is no stagnancy. Impurities, along with the Pyrogenic load, are continuously purged from the last column. At start-up during pre-heating and self-sanitizing the residual accumulated water will also drain off before WFI is produced.
Our plant is designed to be crevice-free as crevices promote stagnation and stimulate bacterial growth. All columns are designed to ASME specifications and are approved by CE for PED regulations as per European Union requirements. All parts in the plant coming into contact with WFI and Pure Steam are electro polished, pipe joints are orbitally welded, gaskets are made from pure Teflon or pharmaceutical-grade silicon and the first column is a double tube sheet designed to prevent pure steam mixing with plant steam, should there be a weld joint failure in the tube sheet.
This state-of-the-art system delivers WFI of a quality standard for storage and distribution that is, much higher than what is desired by pharmacopoeias throughout the world.

Pure Steam Generator

As per cGMP requirements it is recommended to use Pure Steam in place of filtered plant steam. This steam is used for all in-situ sterilization of vessels, Piping Distribution systems, autoclaves, and for humidification of sterile rooms. This will prevent contamination by particulate matter, organics and biological loads like Pyrogen, which is unavoidable in the case of plant (black) steam.
Pharmalab manufactures Pure Steam Generators to meet cGMP requirements. Condensate of this produced pure steam meets all pharmacopoeia requirements of WFI like USP, IP, BP and JP. The plant is manufactured as per FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ASME requirements.
Pure Steam generated from this equipment also surpasses steam quality tests like non-condensable gases, degree of super heat and saturation test as per requirement. Pharmalab has developed an improved version for removal of these gases before pure steam is produced.
The basic principle of operation is Distillation by Thin Film Evaporation. This consists of shell and tube heat exchangers where heat transfer is done by falling film evaporation which gives assurance of achieving high temperature for every drop of water, assures sterility aspect and ensures separation of pyrogenic load by centrifugal action generated during the upward movement of steam.
Care is taken while designing to avoid crevices that promote stagnation and stimulate bacterial growth. All contact parts where the Pure Steam is generated in this plant are electro polished. All pipe joints are orbitally welded. The column with which plant steam comes in contact has a double tube sheet construction to avoid the mixing of pure steam with plant steam in case there is a weld joint failure in the tube sheet. All gaskets are made from pure Teflon or Pharmaceutical grade Silicon.
The equipment is as per ASME design, and is CE approved for PED regulations as per European Union requirements.
